252. Julius TREMAINE
was born about 1759 in pro Gt. Barrington, MA. He died about May 1813 in
Guilford, NY. Julius appears to have lived in Egremont during the early years
of his marriage. Thereafter, the family is found in the Town of Hillsdale, Columbia
County, NY, in 1794 where they had a small farm with timber and a mine on it.
In early 1794, Julius sold and interest in the mine. He next appears in the public
record when purchases 50 acres in Butternuts, Otsego County, NY on 23 Mar 1797
and is enumerated in Butternuts, Otsego County in 1800. In 1808, he sold this
land and purchased lot 12 in the Town of Guilford in Chenango County, across
the Unadilla River from the Town of Butternuts. Several parcels were sold off
this large lot before Julius died in the spring of 1813. The inventory of Julius's
personal property, signed by his son Martin, suggests he was a lumberman. Sale
of his real property was not completed until 1823, when Calvin and Sylvine's
husband sell part of his original purchase. (This Julius has been confused with
his first cousin, Julius, the son of John. This Julius was under 45 years of
age in the 1800 census, John's son would not have been.)

Julius and Reuben
The Tremain Record "Appendix "B" The Mystery of some early tremains.
Benjamin Tremain had a son, Julius probably born in Sheffield, about 1759. His
older siblings were baptized 9 Oct 1757. Benjamin's son Reuben Tremain was baptized
12 Jul 1761. Reuben participated in the Revolutionary war, Julius did not. Julius
and wife Lucy were named in the sale of property left to the children of Rhoda
Pire Tremain, Reuben was not. Julius owned land in Berskshire County, Reuben
did not. However, Reuben was described as a "Gentleman" when indicted
for treason for treason for his part in Shy's rebellion. A Rubin Trewman was
enumerated in the 1790 US Census, Julius was not. No record yet has been found
which contains both given names, it's one or the other.
Conclusion: It is very likely that Julius, son of Benjamin, was also known as
Reuben.
253. Lucy WINCHELL
was born on 12 Dec 1758. The Tremain Record "Appendix "B" The
Mystery of some early Tremain's.
Lucy Tremain, wife of Julius Tremain
Published descriptions of the Julius Tremain family describe his wife as Lucy,
maiden name unknown. No record of a marriage ahs been found. A Winchell genealogy
cites a report that Lucy Winchell married a Joseph Tremain. Several Winchell
families lived in Egremont, MA about 1775, as did Benjamin Tremain. Daniel (ADA
David) Winchell of Suffield, married Lois HALL of Enfield in Jan 1755. Twin daughters
were born to them 12 Dec 1758, Lucy and lois. Daniel died thereafter. Lois was
remarried 25 Feb 1768 to Amos Clark. Twin Lois was remarried 1775. No record
of Lucy. The Lucy who married Julius had twins in 1778. One was named Lois.
Conclusion: It is very likely that Lucy Winchell, daughter of D. and Lois (HALL)
Winchell was the wife of Julius Tremain.
